Bio:
Jim Coyle is a Colorado lawyer who assisted the Colorado Supreme Court in regulating the legal profession in Colorado for 28 years, through June 2018. One of his primary duties during those 28 years was enforcement of the Colorado Rules of Professional Conduct through the Rules of Procedure Concerning Attorney Discipline and Disability.

As the court-appointed Attorney Regulation Counsel, from 2013-2018, Mr. Coyle oversaw attorney admissions, attorney registration, mandatory continuing legal and judicial education, attorney discipline and diversion, regulation of the unauthorized practice of law, and inventory counsel matters.

Mr. Coyle was a founder and the co-chair of the National Task Force on Lawyer Well-Being, as well as co-author and co-editor of the August 2017 National Task Force Report, "The Path to Lawyer Well-Being: Practical Recommendations for Positive Change." Mr. Coyle worked closely with members of the U.S. Conference of Chief Justices, the ABA Commission on Lawyer Assistance Programs, and seven other national lawyer organizations to facilitate this comprehensive report. The report made specific recommendations for judges, legal regulators, legal employers, law schools, bar associations, professional liability carriers, and lawyer assistance programs on how to improve the well-being of members of the legal profession (including law students).

Mr. Coyle was very active in promoting proactive regulatory programs that focused on helping lawyers successfully navigate the practice of law throughout the stages of their career and thus better serve their clients. This included working on and co-hosting the first ABA Center for Professional Responsibility (CPR)/National Organization of Bar Counsel (NOBC)/Canadian Regulators Workshops on proactive, risk-based regulatory programs, in Denver in May 2015, in Philadelphia in June 2016, and St. Louis in June 2017; participating in the International Conference of Legal Regulators (ICLR) from 2014 to 2018, participating in the NOBC Program Committee and International Committee, including as Chair of the Entity Regulation Subcommittee, now known as the Proactive Management-Based Programs Committee; prior service on the NOBC Aging Lawyers and Permanent Retirement subcommittees; and regular speaking engagements on a national and international level.

Mr. Coyle served on other committees on behalf of the National Organization of Bar Counsel, the International Conference of Legal Regulators, the National Conference of Bar Examiners, the National Client Protection Organization, the ABA Commission on Lawyer Assistance Programs, and the ABA Center of Professional Responsibility, all dealing with admissions and practice of law issues.
