Bio:

Professor David Marlett has a fascination for the intersection of the drama of the human condition and the storied profession of the law. He has over 20 years of legal experience representing clients across a range of matters, concerns and deals. In the course of that work, he negotiated the financing of over $60M in project funds. He has counseled numerous boards of directors, corporations, partnerships, and individuals in the midst of change from growth pains to the challenges of winding down.

After obtaining degrees in accounting, finance, and economics, Marlett earned his CPA license before attending The University of Texas School of Law where he was a founding member of the Texas Environmental Law Journal. Subsequently, he founded the National Crowdfunding Association, heralding in equity crowdfunding (Reg CF offers) for its egalitarian merits. As such, he worked with the Obama Administration, the Clinton Global Initiative, and was a member of the SEC Forum on Small Business Capital, the National Small Business Association - Economic Development Committee, and Harvard Business School - New Venture Corporation.

Professor Marlett is passionate about teaching, having taught a number of law school course (and a few undergraduate and graduate courses). Those courses include Agency and Partnerships, Legal Storyship, Banking Law, Client Relationships, Contracts, Entertainment Law, Entrepreneurial Law, Litigation Strategies, Media Law, Mergers & Acquisitions, Negotiations, and Property Law. In addition, during most semesters, he invites his students to his Marlett Optional Practicums - a series of interactive presentations and discussions from his uniquely varied years of practice. Further, he serves as the faculty advisor/coach to CU Law students' negotiation competitions and teams.

In his own creative work, David Marlett has written, produced, and/or directed a number of film projects, including the world's first VR feature film which he made in partnership with Samsung. In addition to being an award-winning storyteller, he is a bestselling author of historical legal thrillers, bringing alive the people and dramatic events surrounding some extraordinary trials.
