Juvenile and Family Law Program Hosts Talk By Staci Haines

February 27, 2005

On February 24th, the Juvenile and Family Law Program and the Women's Law Caucus hosted a talk by Staci Haines, a nationally recognized expert on child sexual abuse. Ms. Haines is the founder and executive director of Generation Five, a San Francisco based organization committed to ending child sexual abuse in five generations. Ms. Haines has been organizing and educating in the area of child sexual abuse since 1985 and is the author of The Survivor's Guide to Sex, a how-to book offering a somatic approach to recovery from sexual trauma and to developing healthy sexual and intimate relationships.

During the well-attended noon event, Ms. Haines first outlined the pervasive problem of child sexual abuse and then addressed shortcomings of the current legal response to this problem. She also discussed alternative models to treat offenders, ensure the safety of children, and heal families and communities from the far-reaching effects of child sexual abuse. The Juvenile and Family Law Program and the Women's Law Caucus thank Staci Haines for her visit.
