To explore changes and intersections in the laws used to defend and empower low-income clients and consider the systemic legal and policy issues confronting marginalized communities. The conference is designed not only to share updates on case law and legislation related to economic justice, but also to break down traditional silos within poverty lawyering. We hope to spark cross-pollination across practice areas as well as thoughtful consideration of how systemic challenges impact our daily practice. In this way, we can develop strategies not only for better representing low-income individuals, but also for building power within communities. This convening will bring together law students, legal practitioners and policy-makers for a full day event, including morning coffee service during registration and a networking lunch. We plan to offer an introductory presentation followed by nine sessions divided into three tracks (a) Litigation Practice in Poverty Lawyering, (b) Lawyering for Community Empowerment, and (c) Policy-Making for Economic Empowerment. Each track will be composed of three CLE accredited panel discussions, as well as a large-group keynote speaker presentation.
