The Color and Community of Civil Rights Attorneys
Professor Barnes is the current Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at Irvine, where he holds a joint appointment in Law & Criminology. He received his J.D. from the U.C. Berkeley School of Law and an LL.M. from the University of
Wisconsin Law School, where he was a Hastie fellow. Professor Barnes is a twelve-year veteran of the U.S. Navy and served in multiple capacities in the Office of the Judge Advocate General. His work explores the themes of anti-discrimination and anti-subordination in a myriad of contexts. In 2008, he was awarded the AALS Derrick Bell Award.
