2013 Rocky Mountain Legal Writing Conference
March 22-24, 2013

Conference Proposals

Call for Proposals

The Program Committee invites participants to submit proposals for presentations during the conference. Although presentations may be on any subject of interest to those teaching legal writing and research, past conference attendees indicate that they particularly appreciate presentations on teaching techniques and presentations offering teaching tools that attendees can implement in their own classes or programs.

Presenters have two options regarding time:

1. You may submit a proposal for a 25-minute presentation. These are often practical presentations on teaching methods or assignments that have been especially successful for you.

2.  You may submit a proposal for a 50-minute panel presentation. A panel should consist of at least two presenters (and preferably 3-5 presenters).

We ask that each participant limit himself or herself to one proposal so that we may provide as many people as possible with opportunities to present.

The deadline for proposals is Thursday, November 15, 2012.  To submit a presentation proposal, please send the following information to both Andrew Carter at Andrew.Carter.1@asu.edu and Susie Salmon at Susan.Salmon@law.arizona.edu:

  1. Contact information for all presenters and co-presenters;
  2. Title of presentation;
  3. Brief (one-paragraph) description of the presentation;
  4. Time needed for presentation (25 minutes or 50 minutes); and
  5. Technology needs for the presentation.

The Program Committee will make decisions on proposals no later than December to provide enough time for presenters to make travel plans.  We look forward to receiving your proposals and seeing you at the conference.

ALWD Scholars' Workshop Proposals

Call for Proposals:
ALWD Scholars' Workshop

We invite up to sixteen individuals to participate in an ALWD-sponsored Scholars' Workshop to take place in Boulder, Colorado, the morning of Sunday, March 24, 2013 (the day after the Thirteenth Annual Rocky Mountain Legal Writing Conference).

This Scholars' Workshop will give participants an opportunity to receive feedback from peers on written works in progress. Authors will be assigned to small groups. Each group member will receive every other group member's paper in advance, along with any framing information that author wishes to include, such as background on the project or areas of concern to focus on in the draft.

To participate in the Workshop, you must have a draft of your paper ready to be distributed to the other participants by Friday, March 1, 2013.

The Workshop is available on a first-come, first-served basis to individuals who meet the requirements for participation and is limited to sixteen participants.  Breakfast and lunch will be provided.

The deadline for responding is Friday, February 22, 2013.

To apply, please email Barb Cooper at barbara.cooper@colorado.edu. In your email include the following information:

1. Your contact information, including name, school, and phone number.

2. The topic of your scholarly legal writing project. The topic must be on legal writing, broadly defined, and the goal must be to ultimately write an article that will be placed in a law review, book, or similar scholarly outlet. Please remember that, to participate in the workshop, you must have a written draft, along with any framing text, ready for distribution by Friday, March 1, 2013. Send those materials by email to Barb as well by the March 1 deadline.
