Bio:
Jennifer L.M. Ahnstedt graduated from the University of Colorado Law School in 1997. Participating in the Legal Aid clinic and interning for the Office of the Colorado Public Defender hooked her on indigent criminal defense. She has practiced law across Colorado: Golden, Denver, Grand Junction, Brighton (district court supervisor), Arapahoe (county court/district court supervisor), and the State Office as Lead State Training Director. From 2002-2004, Jennifer also served as a public defender in the Northern Mariana Islands. As an adjunct professor, Jennifer taught the public defender externship course at the University of Denver Sturm college of law. While her current job responsibilities center on training, as a litigator Jennifer tried a myriad of cases ranging from minor traffic offenses to first degree murder. One of the aspects of trial she finds both most challenging and enjoyable is jury selection because of the inability to predict in advance what jurors will say. Jennifer grew up on the east coast, moved to Colorado for law school, and will never leave. She is married to a fellow defender, Mitchell Ahnstedt, who leads the Golden Regional office. They have two middle school daughters who do not enjoy being cross-examined by their PD parents.
