John Francis's practice is concentrated on antitrust, health care, and First Amendment/media litigation and counseling. He joined the firm in 1990 after practicing for two years at a large Washington, D.C. firm representing media and communications clients in antitrust, libel and other First Amendment litigation. Before moving to Denver, he practiced for two years in the firm's former Washington, D.C. office.
Mr. Francis has successfully represented antitrust clients in dealer termination, price fixing, monopolization, group boycott, price discrimination, and other matters in a variety of industries, including cable television, newspaper, telephone, hospital and health care, beer, cattle feed, insulation, heating and air conditioning, petroleum, retail clothing, paper, carpet, and waste disposal. He recently spent one year (1998) "on loan" handling antitrust matters in-house for a client. His related health care practice has focused primarily on representing hospitals in antitrust, peer review, payment, and collectionsmatters. His First Amendment and media practice has centered on the representation of television, newspaper, and magazine clients in the avoidance and defense of libel litigation and includes media subpoena litigation, television access to courtrooms, FOIA and open records cases, cable television First Amendmentmatters, and pro bono free speech litigation on behalf of the American Civil Liberties Union.
