Bio:
David Tonini is an Associate General Counsel and the Head of Global Ethics and Compliance at Maxar Technologies Inc., a leader in Earth Intelligence and Space Infrastructure that is headquartered in Colorado. Before joining Maxar, David prosecuted cyber and national security crimes for nine years as an Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) in the District of Colorado. His notable cases included convictions for the largest reported network breach of a Colorado company, several darknet-enable thefts of intellectual property and purveyors of child sexual abuse material, and domestic and international terrorists.

David also served as Chief of the Cybercrime and National Security Section for three years. In that role, he led a team of AUSAs who were responsible for addressing all form of cybercrimes, such as unauthorized access and damage to computers, IP and identity theft, online human and sex trafficking, offenses committed via darknet marketplaces, and fraud involving blockchains and digital currencies. He held leadership roles in several cyber task forces including the Mountain West Cyber Fraud Task Force, the Colorado Darknet and Digital Currency Working Group, and the Colorado Joint Terrorism Task Force. He has taught darknet and digital currency investigations to an international audience in Zambia.

Prior to joining the DOJ, David practiced litigation at Bryan Cave, LLP (now Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner) for eight years. He also has more than 20 years of service as an officer in the United States Navy. David presently is assigned as the Commanding Officer of a joint reserve logistics unit in Utah, and he has deployed three times in support of defense operations abroad. David has a BA degree from Duke University and a JD from the University of Virginia.

David grew up in Louisville, Kentucky and now lives in Denver, Colorado with his family. He enjoys travel, college basketball, and the outdoors. An avid swimmer, David crossed the English Channel in 2015 as a member of a record-setting three-swimmer relay.
