Shandea J. Sergent (she/her/hers) is a Lead Deputy Public Defender in the Golden Public Defender's Office. Shandea graduated from the University of New Mexico before moving to Colorado to attend CU Law.
After her semester in the Criminal Defense Clinic with Ann England, Shandea knew that she was destined for a legal career dedicated to representing indigent defendants. Before graduating from Colorado Law, she served as Class of 2012 vice president, OUTLaw president, and regional mock trial finalist.
Shandea represented indigent defendants in rural, mountain, and metro jurisdictions including Boulder, Delta, Gilpin, Golden, Gunnison, Montrose, Ouray and Telluride Colorado. Shandea has litigated and tried more than seventy trials ranging from DUI to first degree murder. She is currently supervising and training county court attorneys in the Golden Office while representing juvenile and adult clients.
Shandea enjoys spending time with friends & family, catching local theatre & dance productions, spoiling her dog, and reminding Coloradans that it's green chile not green chili.
