Hosted by CU Offices that Support Graduate Students Around Issues of Sexual Harassment and Discrimination A consortium of offices and student groups on the CU-Boulder campus that provide support to graduate students are sponsoring this event. Panelists from each oft he groups will be available to provide information and assistance. Participants will join small topical groups to develop hypothetical scenarios that describe who might experience harassment, where incidents might occur, who perpetrators might be, which issues might be involved, and how harassment might impact the individuals involved. Jury Decision Making and Human Behavior

Interested in learning about juries and decision-making? Reid Hastie, Professor of behavioral science from the University of Chicago is coming to speak here at the University of Colorado Law School. Professor Hastie studies judgment and decision-making, memory and cognition, and social psychology. He is best known for his research on legal decision making and on social memory and judgment processes. Professor Hastie is an expert on jury decision-making and has studied subjects as varied as punitive damages in civil cases and the effects of death-qualification on juries in capital cases. He is a co-author on Inside the Jury, a book that has influenced many trial attorneys as it explains how juries assimilate evidence at trial. Please join us for what promises to be an interesting and informative guest lecture on human behavior and the law. Room 205 at 12 pm Monday Nov. 9th. Lunch will be provided.

Character & Fitness Section of the Bar Application

Mr. Larry Pozner of the law firm, Reilly Pozner, whose practice focuses on complex civil and criminal litigation, and specifically on professional malpractice, will be talking with students about the character and fitness portion of the Bar application. The Bar application asks students to report all kinds of personal information from their background to determine that persons fitness to practice law. Such topics include: criminal history, tax and credit issues, prior lawsuits, drug use, mental health issues, etc. Come find out what you need to know about reporting this type of personal information and find out what the Bar examiners are really looking for. Mr. Pozner has represented many lawyers before the Board of Bar Examiners in his more than 35 years of practice, and he is an expert on this topic. He will also give general insight into the application process.

Aid to the Needy Disabled "AND" Budget Cut Panel

More than 45 organizations and hundreds of individuals have united to protest the Governors decision to eliminate the only source of support for more than 10,000 of Colorados poorest citizens who must cope with a disability thats rendered them unable to earn a living. Since 1953, Colorado's Governors have preserved the program, a resource of last resort for our neighbors in greatest need. Cutting the Aid to Needy Disabled (AND) Program is a decision that will result in extraordinary humanitarian devastation; skyrocketing costs to municipalities and tax payers in emergency services; and, a multi-million dollar loss to Colorado businesses. According to the Governor's timetable, every AND recipient will stop receiving assistance on January 1, 2010. Please join PISA in hosting policy makers, activists, and politicians from around the state discuss this important topic.

Reforming Internet Privacy Law Conference

The Center for Democracy and Technology (CDT) has led a working group of Internet Service Providers and privacy groups to draft an amendment to the federal Stored Communications Act, part of the Electronic Communications Privacy Act. The American Law Institute (ALI) recently abandoned a similar effort. Meanwhile, the Criminal Justice Standards working group of the American Bar Association (ABA) has met for two years to try to draft standards for government access to transactional information, which applies to tracking both online and offline. Representatives from these reform groups will describe the history, goals, and content of their proposals. This will be followed by two panels, the first on the need for reform, focusing on two topics, the privacy of stored communications and evidence of online behavior, and the second on the possibilities and prospects for reform in today's political climate.
