Prior to joining the William A. Wise Law Library in January of 2013, Joan Policastri was the Foreign, Comparative & International Law Librarian for the Westminster Law Library at the University of Denver. Using skills she developed in the Cable TV Industry, she began her law library career in Acquisitions at the Westminster Law Library in 2005 after spending 10 years as a paralegal in Denver, Colorado. She received her Master of Library and Information Science from DU, and her BA and MA degrees (political science) from the University of Colorado, Denver. She received her paralegal certificate from the Denver Paralegal Institute where she graduated with honors. Joan has had the opportunity to travel around the world on Semester At Sea (Fall 2000), and visited several countries in the course of her studies. Her Master's thesis on the rights of indigenous peoples took her to Nicaragua to visit the Miskito peoples of the Atlantic Coast in 1989, and her work with international law issues found her at the 2010 International Association of Law Librarians Annual Course at The Hague. Joan has been active in special interest sections of the American Association of Law Libraries and the American Society of International Law which focus on research concerning indigenous peoples.
