Karen Trojanowski has been with the Career Development Office for over ten years and has been the Director for Alternative Careers and Graduate Advisor for over four years. In 2014, she also served as the Interim Externship Director.  Previously she held other positions at Colorado Law as well, including Associate Director of Career Development and Director for Public Sector Careers & Externships.

Originally from Princeton, New Jersey, Karen received her A.B. from the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor in 2000 and her law degree from the University of Colorado Law School in 2004.  Knowing that she wanted to be in an alternative legal career from the start, she joined the Career Development Office at Colorado Law following graduation.  Concurrently, she served as a volunteer family law attorney for Boulder County Legal Services for over five years, and in 2010, she worked as the pro se case manager in Denver District Court.

As the Director for Alternative Careers, Karen specializes in educating students about the growing number of careers in the public and private sector where a law degree is highly valued, but the work is outside of the traditional practice of law.  In recent years, she has specifically focused on helping students pursue non-traditional opportunities in: compliance and risk management, contract facilitation, entrepreneurship, healthcare, energy and technology.  Karen is certified to administer the Strong Interest Inventory (SII), which she regularly uses to help law students gain insight into their personal interests thereby assisting them with making the right long-term career decisions.  As the Graduate Advisor, she also works one-on-one with the individual members of each graduating class before graduation, after graduation and throughout the following year to assist them with their job searches.
