Bio:
Julie Teel joined Colorado Law in 2008 after over eight years working as an environmental attorney for non-profit organizations and the City of San Diego. She received a B.S. in Conservation and Resource Studies from U.C. Berkeley and her J.D. from NYU's School of Law. Julie started her legal career as the first law fellow at the Environmental Law Institute in Washington, D.C. in 1999. Following her fellowship, she worked for environmental protection in large part through successful litigation under a variety of state and federal laws. While with Earthjustice's Denver office, she also supervised students as one of the attorneys charged with running the environmental law clinic at the University of Denver. Her work as an attorney with the Center for Biological Diversity's Climate, Air and Energy Program focused on ways to reduce U.S. greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution under existing laws in order to protect biological diversity, public health, and the environment. Her current research at the University focuses largely on REDD (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation) through the Governors' Climate & Forests Task Force project she implements with Professor William Boyd (http://www.gcftaskforce.org/) and on the impacts of climate change on American Indian tribes and response strategies.
