Ann Roan has been the State Training Director for the Colorado State Public Defender since 2004 and has been a public defender since 1990. She develops curriculum, oversees training and teaches more than 700 lawyers, investigators and administrative professionals. Before her appointment to that position, she spent 10 years as a deputy public defender in trial offices throughout the state, and six years practicing in the Public Defender's appellate division. She has spoken at conferences all over the country sponsored by NACDL, NORML, and other defense organizations. Ann is on the faculty of the National Criminal Defense College in Macon, GA; the NACDL Capital Voir Dire College in Boulder, CO; and has taught state and federal criminal defense lawyers in Georgia, Kentucky, Texas, Louisiana, Washington, New Mexico, Alabama, Utah, California, the District of Columbia and Alaska. She was previously an adjunct faculty member teaching the Appellate Advocacy Clinic at Colorado Law and is a frequent guest lecturer at the law schools at both the University of Colorado and the University of Denver. Ann is a graduate of CU Law School and a member of the Law Alumni Board and the Loan Repayment Assistance Program. She is also a member of the Executive Committee of the Criminal Law Section of the Colorado Bar Association and the American Board of Criminal Lawyers.
