Bio:
Robert Gunning was appointed as a District Court Judge in the Boulder County District Court in September 2022. He currently presides over a civil litigation and probate docket.

Before his appointment to the District Court Bench, Judge Gunning served as a Mediator with the Accord ADR Group (Boulder) and was Of Counsel with Silverstein & Pomerantz, LLP (Denver), a state and local tax litigation firm. From 2019-21, he was a Partner with Maxfield Gunning, LLP, a civil litigation firm.

From 2013-2019, Judge Gunning served as a District Court Magistrate in Boulder. As a Magistrate, he actively managed thousands of civil cases, conducted the District's civil case management conferences, heard and decided discovery disputes, and conducted court trials. He was an Administrative Law Judge with the State Personnel Board from 2011-13, conducting evidentiary hearings and serving as a settlement Judge. Prior to serving as a judicial officer, Judge Gunning practiced civil litigation for over 15 years in both private practice and the public sector, with a focus on state and local tax litigation.

In addition to serving as an Adjunct Professor, Judge Gunning regularly presents CLE programs for a variety of legal organizations. Before his appointment to the Bench, he was the Chairperson of the Boulder County Bar Association ADR Section and regularly volunteered as a mediator with the Boulder County Small Claims Court and as a pro bono attorney through Boulder County Legal Services and Alight.
