Bio:
Joshua J. Widoff is an experienced business attorney who has been a senior member of management across multiple successful real estate platforms. Named by the Denver Business Journal as one of Denver's Best Corporate Counsel, he has overseen various aspects of the operations of real estate private equity funds and public companies. He is a Partner and a member of the management committee in the Real Estate Group of Ares Management Corporation (NYSE: ARES) and advises on matters of strategy and balancing risk to achieve business objectives. Mr. Widoff also plays a lead role in structuring and launching new real estate products and serves on the new product committee for the Ares Real Estate Group.

Mr. Widoff serves as Co-General Counsel to the Ares Real Estate Group. In his role, Mr. Widoff oversees all legal aspects of the Group, including fund formation, capital raising, securities filings, acquisitions, joint ventures, debt financings, asset management, leasing, dispositions, regulatory matters, corporate governance, and litigation. Previously, he served as Managing Director and Chief Legal Officer of Black Creek Group where he was instrumental in the ten-fold growth in the company?s assets under management and led the structuring and negotiation of the sale of the company to Ares in July of 2021.

Under his oversight and guidance of key processes, various sponsored real estate funds have acquired or disposed of over $30 billion in investments through hundreds of transactions involving real estate, entity, and debt acquisitions and originations and dispositions. As part of this total, he oversaw the negotiation and closing of the successful public company mergers of Industrial Income Trust Inc. in 2015 for approximately $4.5 billion, and Industrial Property Trust Inc. in 2020 for approximately $4 billion. Mr. Widoff also has helped to manage the securities law aspects of over $15 billion of capital raised through both public and private offerings, including leading negotiations on institutional joint ventures, co-mingled funds, and separately managed accounts.

In addition to his activities at Ares, he also serves as a member of the board of directors of the U.S. subsidiary of a publicly traded Canadian oil and gas company, Enerplus Resources (NYSE: ERF). Mr. Widoff also served as a member of the Board of Commissioners of the Denver Urban Renewal Authority from 2012-2022, including as its Chairman for three years, overseeing tax increment financing for some of the largest redevelopment projects in Denver, including the $419 million mixed-use redevelopment of the prior University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. Mr. Widoff was a member of the Leadership Denver Class of 2002-2003. He has served on many charitable, community and political boards during his career, including as Finance Committee Co-Chairman and Treasurer for Michael Hancock's successful campaigns for Mayor of Denver in 2011, 2015 and 2019, as well as Co-Chairman of Mayor Hancock's Peak Performance Transition Committee. Since 2016, Mr. Widoff has served as an adjunct professor at the University of Colorado School of Law where he teaches a course on commercial real estate transactions.

Prior to 2007, Mr. Widoff was an equity partner at the Denver law firm of Brownstein Hyatt & Farber, where he began his legal career. He was active in the management of the firm, serving as chairman of the firm's Associate and Recruiting Committees and overseeing an integrated team of attorneys and paralegals servicing clients primarily in the commercial real estate business. During more than a dozen years of private practice, he managed transactions involving the acquisition, development, leasing, financing, and disposition of various real estate assets. He also participated in asset and stock acquisition transactions, convertible debt financings, private offerings, and complex joint venture negotiations.

Mr. Widoff received his undergraduate degree from Trinity University in Texas, magna cum laude, and his law degree from the University of Colorado School of Law where he was named to the Order of the Coif.
