Ted Fiflis has been a member of the Colorado Law faculty since 1965. In the prior eight years, he practiced law in Chicago, and during that time, he became convinced of the centrality of financial and accounting concepts to all areas of business law as well as most other fields of law. As a scholar, he has therefore promoted the teaching of accounting issues to law students. In 1970, the first edition of his widely-read casebook, Accounting for Business Lawyers, was published. It is now in its fourth edition, under the title Accounting Issues for Lawyers, and he is currently preparing the fifth edition. Professor Fiflis has also been very active professionally. From 1982 to 1987, he arbitrated the dispute over the five billion dollars of working capital that was distributed during the breakup of AT&T. He was a consultant to Consumers Union and other citizens' groups in the privatization of Blue Cross of Colorado and other Blue Cross organizations across the nation. In those actions he assisted in obtaining hundreds of millions of dollars in compensation for public charities. Professor Fiflis was the founder and editor-in-chief for eight years, of The Corporation Law Review, and chaired the ALI/ABA post-graduate program in securities regulation from 1990 to 1998. He is also the author of over 100 papers that he has presented to lawyers' groups across the country. His current research interests include the financial and accounting aspects of corporate law. He intends to focus in the near future on international accounting and securities law issues.
