Colorado Law Hosts Getches Symposium

April 30, 2012

A Life of Contributions for All Time

Colorado Law paid tribute to the late David H. Getches with a symposium in honor of his contributions to the legal community, and dedicated an art installation and newly named legal clinic in David's honor.

Friends and alumni of the school gathered in the foyer of the Wolf Law Building to look at a beautiful collection of water themed photographs that serve as reminders of David's dedication to natural resources law. The photographer John Fielder took and donated the photographs and the class of 2012 sponsored the installation.

Following the photograph viewing, a small reception was held in the school's clinical education suite to celebrate the dedication and re-naming of the natural resources clinic, now known as the Getches-Green Natural Resources and Environmental Law Clinic.

Distinguished Professor and Moses Lasky Professor of Law Charles Wilkinson delivered the symposium's keynote address on the legacy of David Getches.

The symposium continued as leaders in the fields of natural resources, water, and American Indian law gathered to reflect on and celebrate David's scholarly legacy. Speakers included Professor John Leshy, Senator Tim Wirth, and John Echohawk, Executive Director of the Native American Rights Fund.
