Innovation policy is on the national agenda, with President Obama calling for policies that will enable the United States to "out-innovate, out-build, and out-educate the world." Right after his State of the Union Address, President Obama released A Strategy For American Innovation, which sets forth the Administration's approach to promoting innovation. In a related effort, as part of the America Competes Act, the Department of Commerce is required to develop an overall assessment of the innovation capacity and competitiveness of the U.S. economy, consulting with an advisory committee as part of that process.
