February’s Monthly Brown Bag Series will feature a presentation by John Meister, Jill Sieben-Schneider and Joe Andenmatten from Disability Services on the subject of Graduate Student Accommodations. Disability Services has a mission to ensure that students with disabilities receive reasonable accommodations and services to participate fully in the academic environment. Faculty and staff often have questions about how to address student needs. The Disability Services staff is committed to working collaboratively with faculty at all levels in order to assist in creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all students. In their presentation, the team will share how the office works to support students as well as the faculty members who are responsible for implementing the accommodations. They will also detail what legal responsibilities faculty members have as well as the tools faculty members can use to create an inclusive environment in their classrooms and research labs. Attendees will gain valuable insight on related topics such as best practices in working with Disability Services students and as part of universal design of instruction. During the hour session, ample time will be provided for audience Q&A.
