Spring Professionalism Series Program #3: Anti-Networking Strategies in the Technology and Transactional World

This event has ended.

When Thursday, February 25, 2016
5:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Location Room 204 and Café
For Students; Alumni

This evening will examine an unconventional thesis: do not network for networking's sake. Associate Professor Brad Bernthal will argue that purposeful interaction---rather than conventional networking--is a more effective way to share information, create meaningful relationships, and interact with others in stimulating ways. Jason Mendelson, Managing Director of Foundry Group, and other select guests will join this event. Please join the Silicon Flatirons Student Group, the Leeds Entrepreneurs Alliance, and the Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative at Colorado Law for a novel perspective about how to (and how not to) cultivate professional relationships.

The event will begin with a 20 minute presentation by Professor Bernthal, which will draw upon empirical insights about interactions from sociology, social psychology, and geography. A panel discussion, moderated by Jason Mendelson will follow. Panelists will discuss purposeful outreach strategies that fit an individual's personality type. After the panel, guests will move into the Café for small group interaction. Participants will connect other law and business students, alumni, and practicing professionals while enjoying heavy appetizers and beverages. Attendees will then join three 15 minute rotating table discussions on arranged topics related to the panel discussion. Alcohol will be served at a reception to follow.

This event is developed through a partnership between the Silicon Flatirons Student Group, the Leeds Entrepreneurs Alliance, and the Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative at Colorado Law. Law students, MBA students, and recent alumni are encouraged to join. The event should be particularly relevant to individuals with interest in transactional law, entrepreneurship, venture capital, startups, intellectual property, and technology.

Attendance will be capped at 100 participants.
** RSVP required for admittance into reception after lecture per University Alcohol Policy.
