The organization of innovation is dynamic and changing. While still occurring in traditional settings, such as within corporation research departments or startups, innovation in many cases is becoming more informal. In this conference, we will explore reliance upon outside volunteers who contribute to innovative outcomes within for-profit environments, explain the unique organizational features of accelerators, and discuss how to balance protection of intellectual property without compromising the benefits of informal contributions to innovation. Lisa Bernstein of the University of Chicago will help lead this stimulating discussion about the changing ways that innovation is organized.
