Silicon Flatirons and the ACLU are excited to welcome Ashkan Soltani for a lunch time talk. Ashkan is an independent researcher who is the leading technologist involved in publicly exposing the way companies and governments conduct surveillance on people online. He will talk about intersections between technology and policy, with a focus on privacy, mobile tracking, and the dropping costs of surveillance. He's promised to leave time for Q&A. Food will be served. Ashkan is known for his work with the Wall Street Journal on their series, "What They Know." His data analysis revealed many things about the ways in which companies used cookies and other online tracking tools that were never known before. Recently, he has been the Washington Post's technical guru assigned to decipher the Edward Snowden leaks. For his work, he was recognized as part of the team that won last year's Pulitzer Prize for public service.
