Being "the first" is sometimes not easy. Some of us, regardless of our race, ethnicity, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, etc., are the first in our family or community to go to law school (or even to undergraduate school). For some students, the decision to go to law school was met with enthusiastic support. For others, the decision to dream bigger dreams was met with rejection, jealousy or hurt feelings, but definitely not with enthusiastic support. And, for still others, their family and culture dismissed their pursuit of an American law degree as not being nearly as difficult or as valuable as other professional degrees from their former country. Where do they turn for the support that they truly need as they face the challenges of law school? What is their story? How have they dealt with these challenges? What can you learn from them as they have forged ahead to live their dreams? What advice can YOU offer others facing these challenges?
